What Is Included in a Full Kitchen Fitting Service?

A clear, stage-by-stage breakdown so you know exactly what you are getting — and what might be an extra.

When you commission a kitchen fitting, you want to know what is included and what is not. This guide breaks down what a full kitchen fitting service from Aaron covers — from removing the old kitchen to the final snagging walk-round. It also flags the things that may need separate arrangement, such as certified electrical work, so there are no surprises.

1. Removal and Strip-Out

The job starts with removing your existing kitchen. Old units, worktops, splashback tiles, old appliances and associated pipework are stripped out and taken away. The space is cleared and the walls and floor are inspected to assess what preparation is needed before the new kitchen goes in.

This stage takes anywhere from a few hours to a full day, depending on how much needs to come out and how the old kitchen was installed. Disposal is included — old units, worktops and packaging are removed from site.

2. Preparation and Making Good

Once the old kitchen is out, the condition of the room becomes clear. Walls may need patching or replastering where old tiles or units were removed. Floors may need levelling before new flooring or units go in. Any issues discovered at this stage — damp, damaged plaster, rotten timber — are discussed with you before work continues.

In older properties across Worcester and Worcestershire — Victorian terraces, period homes — preparation work is often where the real time goes. Uneven walls, out-of-plumb corners and original features all need careful handling. This is where a carpentry background makes a visible difference to the finished result.

3. Unit Installation

Base and wall units are assembled (if flat-pack — IKEA METOD, for example) or positioned (if pre-assembled — Howdens, Wren). Units are levelled individually and then fixed securely to the walls. This is the most critical stage of the installation: units that are not perfectly level lead to problems with worktops, doors and drawers later.

Aaron fits units from all major suppliers including Howdens, Wren, IKEA, Wickes, B&Q, Magnet, Benchmarx and DIY Kitchens. The standard of fitting does not depend on the brand — it depends on the fitter.

4. Worktops

Worktops are measured, cut and fitted on site. This includes sink and hob cut-outs, tap holes, jointing and sealing. Laminate worktops are cut and fitted directly. Solid wood worktops are cut, finished and sealed with appropriate oils. Granite and quartz worktops typically require templating after the units are fitted, off-site cutting, and a return visit for installation — Aaron coordinates this process.

Upstands and splashbacks are fitted as part of this stage. For more on the finishing work, see the kitchen fitting service page.

5. Plumbing Connections

Sink, waste and dishwasher connections are made. Taps are fitted and tested. Washing machine plumbing is connected. If the sink or appliances are moving to a new position, pipework is rerouted as part of the job.

Because Aaron handles the plumbing himself — see the plumbing and tiling page — there is no waiting for a separate plumber to become available. The plumbing is done as soon as the units and worktops are ready.

6. Appliance Installation

Built-in and integrated appliances are installed: ovens, hobs, extractors, dishwashers, washing machines, fridge-freezers. Appliances are levelled, secured and connected. Gas appliances (gas hobs, gas ovens) must be connected by a Gas Safe registered engineer — Aaron can coordinate this or work with your own gas engineer.

7. Tiling

Splashback tiling above the worktop is part of many kitchen fitting jobs. Full wall tiling, floor tiling, and patterned work (herringbone, geometric) are quoted as part of the overall scope. Grouting and silicone sealing complete this stage.

All tiling is carried out by Aaron — no separate tiler needed. This means the tiling is done at the right point in the sequence, not weeks later when a tiler eventually becomes available.

8. Finishing and Snagging

This is the stage that separates a fitted kitchen from an installed one. It includes:

  • Fitting cornice, pelmet and plinths
  • Cutting and installing filler panels and infill strips
  • Aligning doors and drawers — every hinge adjusted, every door checked
  • Sealing around sinks, worktop edges and junctions with silicone
  • Fitting handles and knobs
  • A full snagging walk-round to identify and resolve any small issues
  • Tidy-up and removal of all waste and packaging

This stage takes time, and it is where the difference between a rushed job and a quality job is most visible. Aaron does not skip it.

What Is Not Included (and Why)

A full kitchen fitting service covers a lot, but some things are outside the scope of fitting and need separate arrangement:

  • Certified electrical work — New circuits, cooker connections, consumer unit upgrades and notifiable electrical work must be carried out by a qualified electrician and certified. Aaron can coordinate this or work alongside your electrician.
  • Gas connections — Gas hobs and gas ovens must be connected by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Aaron can arrange this.
  • Kitchen supply — Aaron fits kitchens but does not supply them. You purchase the kitchen from your chosen retailer or trade supplier. This keeps the cost of fitting transparent.
  • Decorating — Painting or wallpapering the kitchen is not part of the fitting service, but Aaron can advise on timing so your decorator knows when to start.
  • Flooring (non-tiled) — Laminate, engineered wood or vinyl flooring is typically arranged separately. Tiled flooring can be part of the fitting service.

Everything outside the scope is discussed and agreed during quoting. You will know exactly what is included and what is not before work begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the quote include removal and disposal of my old kitchen?

Yes, removal and disposal of the old kitchen is included as part of the full fitting service. This is discussed and confirmed when quoting so you know exactly what is covered.

Do you handle electrical work like new sockets or lighting?

Aaron handles the fitting, plumbing and tiling personally. For electrical work that requires certification — new circuits, cooker connections, consumer unit changes — he can coordinate with a qualified electrician or work alongside one you have already arranged. This is discussed during quoting so the scope is clear.

Is tiling included or is it an extra?

Splashback tiling is part of many kitchen fitting jobs. Full wall tiling, floor tiling, or patterned work such as herringbone is quoted as part of the overall scope. Everything is agreed upfront so there are no surprises.

What about appliances — do you fit them?

Yes. Aaron installs built-in and integrated appliances — ovens, hobs, extractors, dishwashers, washing machines — as part of the fitting service. Gas appliances must be connected by a Gas Safe registered engineer, which Aaron can coordinate.
